CHEMIST I/II, City of Santa Cruz
$3,972 - $5,870 monthly (minus temporary 10% reduction through work
furlough), plus excellent benefits and PERS Retirement.
Under direction, conducts a variety of physical, inorganic and
organic chemical, microbiological and bacteriological analyses of
raw and treated drinking water and related solids relevant to water
treatment and distribution or wastewater collection, treatment and
disposal. Current vacancy is in the Wastewater Laboratory.
Requires:
Chemist I
• Bachelors Degree in chemistry or a related field and
one year of laboratory experience in an environmental or other
analytical laboratory that included the performance of physical,
inorganic and organic chemical, biochemical and bacteriological
tests related to the analysis of water or wastewater, depending
upon area of assignment.
Chemist II
• Bachelors Degree in chemistry or a related field and
two years of experience as a professional level chemist which
included at least one year of experience conducting physical,
inorganic and organic chemical, biochemical and bacteriological
tests related to the analysis of water or wastewater, depending on
the area of assignment.

REQUIRED SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS
Chemist I and II applicants:
• Describe your working experience in an environmental or
other analytical laboratory that included the performance of
physical, inorganic and organic chemical and bacteriological tests
related to the analysis of water.
• Describe your knowledge and skills in operating laboratory
instrumentation.
Chemist II applicants:
• Describe the experience that has provided you with the
knowledge of the methods and standards issued by state and federal
regulatory agencies related to drinking water sampling and
analysis.
• Describe any experience you have that has provided you
with some knowledge of water treatment and distribution, hydrology
and limnology.
